Erläuterung der Einheit des Seins | An explanation of the oneness of being
Bilingual Edition German/English
A wisdom text of enduring popularity over the last seven centuries, to which this bilingual edition contributes. Featuring a foreword by Peter Hüseyin Cunz, Head of the Mevlevi Sufi Order in Switzerland.
This brief text offers an insight into a worldview that is quite different from the view held by many people. It clarifies that for the realization of oneness with Being, it is not necessary to eliminate the “separate” Self or ego, because this illusory Self has never existed. Rather, it is necessary to know your true Self to recognize your oneness with all Being. For when you know yourself, “ignorance simply vanishes” and it becomes clear how things truly are.
This bilingual edition is based on a new translation of the first complete work attributed to Muhyiddin Ibn ʿArabi that appeared in a Western language. The earlier English translation (by T.H. Weir from 1901) helped to make Ibn ʿArabi’s name known in the West in the last century, even though many scholars today consider Awhad al-din Balyani to be the author of the book.
The new English translation by Cecilia Twinch is based on a representative selection of Arabic manuscripts from several national libraries, some of which are attributed to Ibn ʿArabi and some to Balyani. The sheer volume of available manuscripts proves the enduring popularity of this book over the last seven centuries.
Frances Ryan (beshara publications): “I thank the translator for the excellent work she has done in translating the text. It is truly an outstanding work and it is wonderful to have a good and modern German translation of it. May it become a bestseller, just like in English.”
